Editorial standards
This site exists because sea moss is a category where marketing runs far ahead of evidence and quality control. These are the rules we hold ourselves to — mechanically, where possible: several of them are enforced by our build system, meaning a page that violates them cannot be published at all.
Reviews
- Every review states its methodology on the page.
- Every review lists cons. No exceptions — a review without downsides is advertising.
- Lab data is checked against documents, not claims. “Lab-tested” on a label is a claim; a dated certificate of analysis from a named lab is a document. Our reviews record which one a brand actually has, and “no published test data” is reported as a finding.
- Food-safety posture is graded as documented, claimed, none, or unknown — because “claimed but not documented” is the honest state of much of this market.
- Price-per-ounce is computed from an observed price with the observation date shown, and prices are re-checked monthly.
Health claims
- We never state that sea moss diagnoses, treats, cures, or prevents any disease. Our build system rejects pages containing such claims.
- Health-related pages require at least two citations to primary or governmental sources (NIH, FDA, CDC, PubMed-indexed journals) and carry a medical disclaimer.
- We repeat no myths as fact — including the “92 of 102 minerals” claim, which has no analytical basis and which our system blocks outright.
- We do not currently have a credentialed medical reviewer, and we do not pretend to. Content is published under our editorial team, as an organization. If and when a registered dietitian reviews our health content, their real, verifiable name and credentials will appear — and not before.
Freshness
Safety pages, reviews, and rankings are re-reviewed at least every 180 days; guides and recipes at least yearly. Every page shows its last-reviewed date.
Independence
- Affiliate relationships are disclosed above the first commercial link on every page that has one. See the full disclosure.
- Recalls and safety events are covered regardless of partnership status.
- If we ever sell our own product, pages about it will be labeled as our marketing, and reviews of competitors will carry a conflict-of-interest notice.
Corrections
Factual errors are corrected in place with a dated note. If a brand disputes a lab-data reading, we publish the document and the dispute together.
